When Less Content IS More: Content Pruning

In the world of more, more, more we sometimes have to force ourselves to slow down, take a breather, and reflect. Content marketing is no different. Let’s all take a page from Marie Kondo

Deleting content from your website or blog sounds like an SEO nightmare, but it can actually become an SEO dream come true. This practice is called “content pruning”. Now don’t go crazy deleting EVERYTHING, a strategy needs to be in place and it has to be methodical.

What exactly is content pruning?
Content pruning is removing, updating, consolidating and/or redirecting low-value pages on your website. Content pruning shouldn’t be done without an audit of your site.

Here’s what my content audits consist of:

  • Review content for missing information or gaps

  • Identify content overflow - when there is just too much content

  • Find outdated pages - old events, discontinued products…bye bye!

  • Optimize historical information - review and enhance pages to achieve a higher search engine ranking

  • Analyze what is working (and repeat)

  • ORGANIZE! Because a good purge is nothing without some well thought out infrastructure - makes it easy for search engines to crawl.

Are you ready to Marie Kondo your website? Let’s get started!

Social + Ecommerce = Shoppable Posts

What do you get when you put two of my favorite things together? Social Media + Ecommerce = Shoppable Posts.

Selling on Instagram is getting a lot easier with the launch of their latest shoppable posts feature! Back in the day, okay maybe just last year, the only way to get Instagrammers to buy was to hope they went back to the link in your bio AND THEN found the actual product you were mentioning AND THEN added it to their cart. Another option for those with a larger following was the swipe up feature in Instagram stories (which BTW requires a minimum of 10K followers).

This new shoppable feature is making checking out a breeze - users don’t even have to leave the Instagram app!

Have you used it yet? Not sure where to start? I’m only a phone call, tweet, or email away. Let’s make it happen!

A Piece of the Ecommerce Pie

U.S. Department of Commerce data shows that ecommerce sales currently average about 9.1% of total retail sales. Who wouldn’t want a piece of the pie?

Whether you have a brick and mortar store and are looking for the perfect supplement to help grow sales or are strictly focusing on online sales, now is the perfect time to get started!

Did you know shoppers spend on average 36% of their budget online (BigCommerce)? And that number will continue to grow as eMarketer expects as many as 2.14 billion digital buyers worldwide by 2021.

With ecommerce platforms like BigCommerce, Magento, Volusion, Amazon, Ebay and more…expanding your reach now has endless possibilities. Let’s get you started today!

Instagram, the New Facebook?

March has been a month of changes for Instagram. First, improvements to videos as mentioned in my previous blog post and now a not-so-welcomed feed change. The looming change in Instagram's feed will display photos and videos from accounts you are following based on an algorithm. Posts will be displayed based on popularity and other social signals versus its current chronological order. Sound familiar?

Instagram may be taking cues from its big brother and owner, Facebook which made the same algorithm move back in 2009.

After a frenzy of complaints from Instagrammers, Instagram tweeted the below. The cryptic tweet may mean the change isn't imminent but I have a feeling it'll be on the horizon soon enough.
